1. Confirm that the computer is able to record in its operating system.
(e.g. in Windows 10, this can be done by connecting the microphone to the computer, right-clicking
on the speaker icon on the taskbar, and choosing “Recording Devices”)
The recording level indicator should light up if it's detecting your voice when speaking into the
microphone. Otherwise, please check the microphone’s recording level via the “Properties”
button at the bottom of the “Sound” window above and choose “Ok” to save any changes
made.
2. Launch Smarty Ants in the Chrome Browser with a student that is ready to record in the
program.
3. The Chrome Browser will prompt the user to “Allow” or “Block” using the microphone
for the Smarty Ants website. Please choose “Allow”. This is a one-time setting change.
4. In the event the Chrome Browser does not provide that option and the students can
only record in Windows but not in chrome, please enter
“chrome://settings/content/microphone” in a separate tab on the Browser’s address
bar to see if “https://play.smartyants.com:443” is under the Block section of the
microphone setting window.
5. If it is, please remove it by clicking on the trash can, closing the entire browser,
relaunching it, and logging back into Smarty Ants. You will then be prompted to choose
the “Allow” or “Block” option when Smarty Ants requests a recording to be done.
Please choose “Allow” and you should be able to record.
6. You can also confirm that Chrome Browser has saved this option by revisiting
“chrome://settings/content/microphone” in a separate tab.
“https://play.smartyants.com:443” will be listed under the “Allow” section of the
microphone setting window.
